Body

A longtime Rockdale couple received the saddest news imaginable recently.

Their 20-year-old grandson was found dead, apparently stabbed, at an Air Force Base on the island of Guam, near the middle of the Pacifi c Ocean.

Billy and Clara Bland said grandson Bradley Hale is the son of Rodney and Amanda Hale of Montgomery and Charla Hale of Dickinson.

Amanda Hale is the former Amanda Bland of Rockdale.

The incident occurred on Andersen Air Force Base on the Pacifi c island where Airman First Class Hale was stationed.

Initial reports, quoting a Guam medical examiner, said the Airman had been stabbed but the doctor later said he was not sure if that assessment was true.

Linda Card of the Air Force’s Offi ce of Special Investigations (OSI) said later that agents reported seeing a lot of blood after Hale was found in his base quarters, and also observed “what appeared be a stab wound on the victim’s body.”

She said details, and cause of death, would not be released until an autopsy had been analyzed.

Clara Bland told The Reporter her grandson had indeed been stabbed.

A report from the Air Force indicted someone had been taken into custody.

“This is a terrible tragedy and we are all deeply saddened,” Brigadier Douglas Cox, commander of the Air Force’s 36th Wing, said.
