It’s far from a surprise, but a certain little construction project in Central Rockdale has already lifted 2018 into the top six years, all-time, for construction.

During the month just past, Built-Wright Construction took out a $5,090,413 building permit at City Hall to construct the new stadium and track and renovate the field house complex.

Combined permit total for the rest of the five months elapsed so far was $264,238.

The total, though May, of $5,354,651, already eclipses the $5,186,826 in all 12 months of 2017, a year which included the $3,512,471 permit for the new police station.

NO. 6—2017 had been the sixth-place year, all-time. Now that honor goes to 2018.

The current year has a ways to go to crack the top five, however. Here are those totals:

No. 1—2008, $30,877,029 (new intermediate school, expansion-renovation of high school).

No. 2—2006, $9,220,773.

No. 3—2003, $8,872,018.

No. 4—2004, $7,569,950.

No. 5—2007, $7,445,183.

Permits only reflect construction within the Rockdale city limits.

MONTH-BY-MONTH—Here are the month-by-month building permit totals, so far, for 2018.

January—$32,514.

February—$16,166.

March—$136,794.

April—$78,764.

May—$5,148,672.

The $5,354,651 total for the first five months of 2018 compares t0 $689,653 over the first five months of 2017.
