Home fans getting ‘sneak peak’ at new Tiger Field

An open house at the new Tiger Field has been set for Sept. 28, the Friday of Big Blue’s open date.

The stadium construction, now well into the home stretch, was a topic of conversation Monday for Rock-dale ISD trustees in their September board meeting in the Central Administration Building.

Trustees also took the next step toward purchasing two properties adjacent to the new field.

OPEN HOUSE—The open house is set for 7 to 8 p.m. Sept. 28 and fans are invited.

“Season ticket holders, especially, can come and check out where they will be sitting this fall, and for many falls in the future,” Supt. Dr Denise Monzingo said. “But everyone is welcome.”

Officials are hoping to have as much of the new facility completed as possible by Sept. 28.

The press box is scheduled to go up later this week, weather permitting.

Dr. Monzingo said officials would like to have the new track striped before the open house, but noted that might depend on the weather.

The defending state champion Tigers will host their home opener one week later, Oct. 5, against Manor New Tech in the first game on the new field.

The recent rains—and with more forecast on the way—have forced a change in direction.

Originally the entire project, which involved re-orienting the Lady Tiger softball field, was to have been completed at the same time.

“With the rains, and the time getting short, we went ahead and concentrated on the football field,” she said.

RESOLUTIONS—Trustees, on votes of 7-0 and 6-1, voted on resolutions to proceed with purchase of properties at 505 and 524 Miller adjacent to the field.

One is targeted as more parking and other to provide access to the field house, which has also been renovated.

No purchase price has yet been agreed upon.
