The news is mostly good this week as Milam County Sheriff David Greene continues to recuperate in a Portland, Oregon, hospital from a heart attack that nearly claimed his life.
Chief Deputy Sheriff Chris White said the next goal is to return the sheriff to Milam County to continue his recovery.
But the Greene family will face out-of-pocket expenses in that return and, accordingly, fund raising toward that goal has begun.
RETURN—“We had been hopeful to get him back to Texas late this week or next,” White said.
“But we were told Sunday there were a few setbacks that will delay his return and we are now not certain when that return will be,” he added.
White said following the removal of an impella pump week before last, and being taken off some of his sedation medications the sheriff is talking more and has been more alert.
Greene was stricken June 26 while on vacation visiting in-laws in Oregon.
NEXT STEP—White said the next step will be to arrange for some sort of air ambulance to fly Greene from Oregon to Milam County.
And that presents a challenge.
“Although the sheriff’s medical insurance is covering a large portion of his hospital costs, it does not appear it will cover all the costs,” White said.
So a pair of donation funds have been created.
There’s an online “Gofund me” drive that is shared on at least three Facebook accounts, those of David Greene, Janelle Greene (the sheriff’s wife) and Chris White.
“There is also an account set up at Classic Bank for those who would like to donate but are not familiar, or comfortable, with web-based programs,” he said.
The Classic Bank account is under the name “Sheriff David Greene Benefit.”
“His recovery will require numerous adjustments and needs his family is not prepared for,” White said.
“I know that our Sheriff’s family has been humbled by the extraordinary outpouring of prayers, support, and well-wishes over the past three weeks,” he said. We continue to give glory to God throughout all of this; it is truly a miracle how much the sheriff has improved.”
