Nine Milam County 4-H members attended 4-H district and state camps this summer.

The first camp attended was the District 8 4-H Surge Leadership Camp. This camp was open to all incoming eighth-12th grade youth.

Three of our 4-H County Council officers attended this camp and learned many life skills. Adison Dach, Jack Luckey, Kenzie Hobbs and Josh Evans, County Extension Agent, attended the camp.

They learned about living on a budget, etiquette, leadership skills and many other tools to become better citizens and leaders in 4-H.

Our second camp attended was our Southeast District 8 County Camp. This was open to third-12th grade youth.

Those attending the camp were Abbie Basonic, Maddie Basonic, Amber Basonic (volunteer), David Basonic (volunteer), James Holcombe, Luke Holcombe, Mackenzie Holcombe, Andy Holcombe (volunteer) and Micah Holcombe.

The camp theme was camping, and the 4-H members learned about wildlife, camping without a trace, consumer with camping products, dance, team building and many other fun sessions.

Lastly, Noah Bradley attended the Texas 4-H Aperture Academy at the Texas 4-H Center in Brownwood. Noah learned more about photography as well as many other photography skills.

All these 4-H’ers plan to bring back what they learned and teach the 4-H members of Milam County for the upcoming year.

Remember that 4-H will start Sept. 1 and our 4-H Open House will be Aug. 17 from 9 a.m. to noon.
