At Rockdale Elementary School, we have many activities that our students are involved in that enhance our core curriculum. Two of these programs are the iTigers program and the physical education program.
Coach David Monroe has a dual role at Rockdale ISD. He is not only a physical education teacher for Rockdale Elementary, but he also coaches Rockdale Junior High students and Rockdale Senior High students.
Throughout the year, the students have worked on fitness, social skills and having fun. A bright spot in PE is the great job the student did in raising money for the American Heart Association through Kids Heart Challenge. The amount of $5,708.71 was the highest amount raised at the elementary in the past five years.
Field day is coming up at the end of May and will look different than it has in years past. We will not travel to the track. It will all take place at the elementary with no visitors attending due to COVID-19. Each grade will have their own time slot to participate in field day fun.
There will also be a before school and after school iTigers program for students. iTigers will soon wrap up the spring session at Rockdale ISD and then get the summer session started.
The iTigers program currently offers after school homework help and tutorials, after school enrichment activities and before school homework help.
There are a few events that are virtual for parents and students to join. Every Saturday morning we offer free Zumba classes at 10 a.m., a virtual yoga and cardio dance class each week to attend at your own convenience.
There are plans to offer an ACE Family cooking class during the weeks of summer school.
If you are interested in being a part of the iTigers Advisory Committee, please contact the site coordinator at your child’s campus.
The last day for afterschool iTigers classes for the spring semester will be May 13, and the last day for morning iTigers classes will be May 14. This is for all campuses so please make other arrangements for your students after these dates.
Summer iTigers classes will begin June 1 and will continue until July 1.
For more information please contact the iTigers coordinator (Ashley Evans at RES) or the coordinator at your student’s campus.
Students know that physical activity and fun activities keep our minds and our bodies active throughout the year and over the summer break.
