As anyone who has driven past the former Coffield Warehouse at the Union Pacific tracks on Main Street knows, the much-anticipated StyroRez company is not coming there.
Another business, Servicing Welders Across Texas (SWAT), is now occupying the building.
Lin Perry, who owns the building, confirmed to The Reporter that StyroRez is not going to be a tenant.
Kara Clore, executive director of the Rockdale Municipal Development District (MDD) said she hadn’t heard from StyroRez “in a long time.”
JOBS—The business, which was supposed to bring 30 jobs initially, and eventually as many as 200 to Rockdale within 10 years, was announced in a downtown public meeting on Dec. 8, 2016.
StyroRez planned to clean and repurpose Styrofoam, an artificial substance which continues to pose environmental problems, especially in oceans.
During the 2016 announcement, owners said the warehouse would house extensive machinery and that they hoped to be up and running by Feb. 1, 2017.
While that didn’t happen, work on the building, a Rockdale landmark, did begin.
Periodically, there were assurances that the business still planned to locate in the former warehouse.
That never happened.
