Three local organizations— Rockdale Chamber of Commerce, Rockdale Rotary Club and the Kay Theater— have announced their partnership to present family- friendly Summer Movies in the Park series on the third Saturdays of May, June and July.
The movies will be shown at 8 p.m. at Wolf Park in downtown Rockdale and will be free to attend.
“We could not be more excited to bring this event to Rockdale and make the most of our downtown space,” said Chamber Executive Director Lucita Rodriguez. “This partnership is a perfect example of what makes Rockdale a great place to live, grow and raise a family.”
The first movie will be on Saturday, May 17, with Shrek. Celebrating the 40th anniversary of its release, The Goonies will be featured on Saturday, June 21, and the series will wrap up on Saturday, July 19, with Pixar classic Toy Story which celebrates its 30th anniversary.
The Kay Theater will bring a large outdoor movie screen and sound system to the park and invites the public to bring blankets and lawn chairs.
“The Kay Theater mission to bring is to bring arts and entertainment to our rural community,” said Kay Theater President Brian Beard.
The three organizations are sharing the cost of movie licensing fees in order to offer free admission.
“As a supporter of Rockdale’s youth, Rockdale Rotary Club was proud to partner with The Kay and the chamber n this movie series,” said Rotary President Gaye Bland.
