A 38-year-old Rockdale man died Sunday night in a highway accident south of Rockdale on US 77.
According to the Department of Public Safety, Jason Kelley was pronounced dead at the scene, 5.8 miles south of Rockdale by Precinct 3 Justice of the Peace Andy Isaacs.
The DPS said Kelley was in a northbound 2009 Dodge pickup which drifted to the right on the highway and struck a guard rail about 9:05 p.m. Location was near Yegua Creek.
The pickup became disabled in the northbound lane and the guard rail also extended into the highway, the report noted.
One vehicle coming upon the scene was able to stop without contact but another northbound vehicle, a 2002 Ford sedan, driven by 25-year-oldfReshale Dilda of Dallas came upon the pickup and struck it.
Damages were termed extensive to the vehicles along with the guard rail.
Dilda was not injured, according to the DPS.
Several state trooper and sheriff’s deputies, the Rock-dale Volunteer Fire Department and an AMR ambulance crew responded to the scene of the accident.
The crash was the seventh fatal accident in Milam County in 2019, claiming a total of nine lives.
