Southwest Milam Water Supply Corporation and the City of Thorndale are two of the entities receiving grants this year from the Post Oak Savannah Water Conservation District (POSGCD).
The City of Rockdale applied for a grant but did not receive one.
Four grants were awarded by POSGCD board during a regular session last Tuesday in the organization’s Milano headquarters, two each went to entities in Milam and Burleson Counties.
The four grants totaled $1,254,150, according to POSGCD General Manager Gary Westbrook.
LINES—Southwest Milam WSC received the largest grant from the water district, $390,000.
It will be used to replace obsolete lines, according to the application.
The City of Thorndale will receive a $385,000 grant to rehabilitate an elevated storage tank.
Replacing obsolete water lines is also the focus of the $381,105 grant awarded the City of Somerville.
Fourth grant, $98,045, went to the Birch Creek Rec. WSC to install isolation valves.
ROCKDALE—The City of Rockdale, which received a $285,000 grant in 2016, and had applied for a 2018 grant did not receive a grant this year.
City Manager Chris Whittaker is now a member of the POSGCD board, which makes the decisions.
Whittaker recused himself from any discussion or voting on Rockdale’s application.
