Milam County is reaching a major milestone this week with the re-opening of several county institutions.
• The Rockdale Substation of the Milam County Tax Office will open Tuesday.
• Milam County Main Tax Office in Cameron is open. Its first day was Tuesday, June 2.
• Milam County Clerk’s Office in Cameron opened Monday.
• Milam County Court is opening this week.
SUBSTATION—Tax Collector Sherry Mueck said the Rockdale Substation in the One-Stop Center will be open regular hours after Tuesday.
That’s Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. for taxes and registration. Title transfer cutoff time is 3:30 p.m.
“That lobby is small is shared with two other coun ty entities. We ask everyone to practice social distancing with no more than two persons at the window.
MAIN OFFICE—The Cameron Main Tax Office hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for taxes/registration with title transfer cutoff at 3:30 p.m.
“No more than seven people in the lobby at once,” Mueck said.
Patrons will line up outside, depending upon what kind of business they wish to transact. “If weather is bad we will get your cell phone number and call you in your vehicle.
The Main Office will answer phones Monday through Fridays, 9 a.m. to 12-noon and 1:30 to 4:15 p.m.
“We are experiencing a high volume of walk-in customers, “if no one answers, please leave a message or call back later,” she said. Also, Mueck said all vehicle dealerships may go back to the pre-pandemic process, drop off titles at either location and pick up when complete.

COUNTY CLERK—The Milam County Clerk’s Office is now open to the public, weekdays 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
“Only eight people will be allowed in the lobby at a time and a table with forms will remain outside to help speed up the process,” County Clerk Jodi Morgan said.
“The records room will be available by appointment only, with only four persons inside at a time. Visitors will also notice an expanded lobby with protective glass and sanitizer stations,” she said.
COUNTY COURT— County Judge Steve Young said Milam County Court is re-opening this week. “We will have in-person arraignment and pleas,” he said.
“But every ‘non-essential’ hearing, such as probates and guardianship hearings will continue to be through teleconferencing,” he said.
Young said all persons entering the courthouse will be screened by the bailiff, and will be required to maintain social distancing and wear a mask.
