Sporadic topwater action by both white bass and largemouth bass, in separate schools, has been going on for about three weeks now.

Low-light topwater fishing for white bass in the mornings has been exceptional thanks to a healthy threadfin shad spawn this spring. The newly spawned shad are anywhere from 1.25-2.25 inches long now and the white bass are gorging themselves routinely on this slow, small fish.
Throw the MAL Mini or any lure that is small and silver or white. Once this easy topwater fishing dies, fish can still be found lingering in the same areas and caught by downrigging using #12 Pet Spoons. If mid-morning fish are sighted in open water, this same program will work.
If the bait they are feeding on consists of mature shad, throwing larger MAL Heavy Lures has been very productive.
The evening bite has been short, but intense, with most of the action packed into the 40 minutes prior to sunset and the 15 minutes thereafter.

Catfish are great as the annual spawn is wrapping up large numbers of blue catfish found in the mouths of creeks and along old river channels in 10-30 feet of water. Drifting with fresh cut shad has worked best.

Flatheads have been slow but can be found around large rock piles using live perch.
