Starting next week, residents served by the Central Texas Regional 9-1-1 Program will be able to text that number to get emergency help.
Becky Cooley, spokesperson said the text service should only be used in an emergency situation, when someone is unable to speak or when speaking would put the texter in danger.
“It provides an alternative in cases such as a child abduction, active shooter or domestic abuse” she said.
