The Thorndale Independent School District met Wednesday night and approved a contract with MRI construction, in downtown Thorndale, to complete a high school safety renovation starting June 1.

“This project has been a priority on our long-term facilities plan for many years. We also recently purchased 16 acres adjacent to Bulldog stadium that will give the district much needed land that will allow for growth and expansion when the need arises. These two expenses are being funded from savings that the district has been working to accumulate over the last five years to take care of these types of needs,” Superintendent Adam Ivey said.

The project, which should be completed around the beginning of August, move the high school office to the space occupied by the library to allow for a safer entry point to the building.

The current office space will be transformed into a commons area that will serve as a media center, library, meeting space and other uses.
