Milam County Throwers (formerly known as Milam County Washer Throwers) held a benefit Sunday at the Rockdale VFW for Darian “Hump” Jackson, a 10-year-old boy who has been in the hospital with encephalitis since August 2021. The total raised was $6,713. This was all monies raised by selling barbecue plates, having a 50/50 fundraiser, silent auction and tournaments. There were 200 barbecue plates pre-sold and then about 20 extra plates along with sausage wraps.

“Thank you to the Rockdale VFW for donating the facility and helping with the 50/50 fundraiser tickets. We would like to give a special thanks to Peace Lutheran Church and Rockdale Country Ford for their monetary donations at the beginning to help us buy the chicken and supplies needed. Rockdale Meat Market donated 10 pounds of sausage and 50 pounds was donated by Jacob Leslie who got the meat donated by Shane Stiles with Stiles Switch BBQ & Brew. Vicky von Gonten made and donated the beans and Olivia Castenada made and donated the potato salad. Brett’s Backyard BBQ hooked us up with the pickles and onions. Kim Jeter made and donated the BBQ sauce and Alpha Tau Delta donated the desserts and they even pre-cut and put them in to-go plates for us,” said Kim Jeter, organizer.
