A one-vehicle rollover Thursday night on US 79 west of Milano claimed the life of a 45-year-old Cameron man.

According to the Dept. of Public Safety, Frank Randolph Summers III died as a result of injuries sustained when his pickup rolled at 8:52 p.m. in the 6400 block of US 79, just west of the Milano city limits.

The DPS said Summers was westbound on the highway when his 2003 Dodge 2500 pickup went into the ditch on the westbound side of US 79.

According to the report, the truck then “vaulted over a driveway and rolled.”

The DPS said Summers was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle.

Also rushing to the scene were the Milano Volunteer Fire Department, an American Medical Response ambulance team and the Milam County Sheriff’s department.

Summers was airlifted to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Summers was the eldest son of former Milam County Judge Dr. Frank Summers Jr.

Dr. Summers was elected county judge in 1998 and served three terms in that office.

The death was the second on US 79 in five days. On June 27 a 16-year-old Rockdale resident died on US 79 in Thorndale when his vehicle left the highway, hit two culverts and came to rest in a parking lot.
