Rockdale Rotary Club member Gordon Todd has been honored as a member of the Rotary District 5870 Hall of Fame, recognizing his three-decades-plus of civic, club and community service.
Gaye Bland, president, said Todd was nominated for the district honor by his club, selected by the district and was presented his award May 4 at the district’s Celebration of Clubs in San Marcos.
Bland said: “Gordon, a Rockdale Rotarian since 1993, and a Cameron club member for over five years before that, exemplies everything about the Rotary ideals and mission. A local business owner, he has a huge heart and will do anything for any person, organization, school or community event and, of course, Rotary.
“He donates his time, talents and financial help to our local fire department and first-responders, making sure they’re taken care of.”
A six-time Paul Harris Fellow, Todd serves on Rotary’s Casino Night committee which stages the club’s annual fund-raiser. He has twice served the club as president, one term as secretary, many years on the board of directors, and on numerous committees including scholarship, RYLA and service. He has attended many district assemblies and events, including PETS and Pre-PETS.
“Gordon supports all aspects of our club, presents certificates to the Intermediate School’s character-building recipients, works local Pack Pals food drives, water project fund-raisers and washing wheelchairs at the local nursing home,” Bland said.
“He is active in the club’s polio eradication event and supports the Rotary International Foundation,” she noted. 'An avid outdoorsman, Gordon provides our club with wonderful programs, photos and videos of his Africa and Alaskan hunts and Montana hunting and fishing trips and other adventures,' Todd and wife Karen enjoy traveling and spending time with friends and family. They are able to split time between his home place in Ennis, Montana and their Rockdale home.
“Our club is blessed to have Gordon and his willingness to work projects, provide expertise, and share his pastime with all. This makes him one special Rotarian,” Bland said.
