The annual Milam and Burleson Counties Groundwater Summit will be held August 18 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Caldwell Civic Center. All are welcome to attend. The Summit is free and open to the public with lunch provided.
“Bobby Bazan, POSGCD’s water resource management specialist, and Michael Redman, POSGCD’s regulatory compliance specialist, will explain the critical well monitoring results for the year,” said POSGCD General Manager Gary Westbrook. “Well monitoring is one of the ways POSGCD ensures our goals to preserve, conserve and protect groundwater resources in Burleson and Milam Counties. They will update the aggressive well monitoring network to ensure compliance with the district’s management plan. This network allows us to keep our eye on the water levels in the aquifers in our district.”
Dr. Steve Young will explain how POSGCD determines achievement of compliance with its management goals and strategies. These protective strategies include Desired Future Conditions (DFC) which guide the district’s decisions in preventing excessive impacts to the aquifers.
“Citizens of Milam and Burleson counties, as well as surrounding areas, benefit from attending the Groundwater Summit. Post Oak Savannah Groundwater Conservation District organizes the event and invites groundwater experts from across Texas to come speak at the local level,” Westbrook added. “It is a great opportunity for people to come and learn about the state’s requirements on local groundwater management and stay up-to-date on current groundwater issues, such as property rights and groundwater management.”
