Milam County Republican voters went with the incumbents Tuesday as Sheriff Chris White and Prosecutor Bill Torrey were essentially re-elected in the GOP Primary.
Neither faces Democratic opposition in November.
White drew 2,575 votes to 790 for Herbie Vaughan and 763 for Craig Wise.
White carried every box in the county. (See page 8A.)
Torrey won another term with 2,271 votes. His challenger, Cameron Police Chief Lonnie Gosch, polled 1,806.
COMMISSIONER S—In the race for Precinct 3 Commissioner, covering south east Milam County, Art Neal won with 743 votes to 407 for Frank Summers and 107 for Charles E. Truitt.
Incumbent John Fisher did not seek re-election.
RUNOFF—There’s a runoff for Pct. 1 Commissioner between incumbent Opey Watkins and one of his two challengers. Henry “Hub” Hubnik led the field with 577 votes to 456 for the incumbent. Hubnik just missed winning outright Tuesday with 48.9 percent of the vote.
Ricky McCall polled 147.
In the other local primary contest, James Pratt polled 767 votes and Pat Guffey 347 for the Precinct 1 Constable position being vacated by John Anderle.
Incumbent Precinct 4 Constable Michael Moehling polled 705 votes. He was unopposed in the GOP Pri mary but will face Democrat Sam Pickett in the fall.
UNOPPOSED—Totals for county GOP incumbents who face no Republican or Democrats opposition in 2020:
District judge—John Youngblood, 3,675.
Tax collector—Sherry Mueck, 3,687.
Pct. 2 Constable—Char-lie West, 761.
Pct. 3 Constable—Jay Beathard, 1,145.
CHAIR—Bill Whitmire drew 3,625 votes for County Republican Chair.
NATIONAL—President Donald Trump easily carried Milam County in his renomination bid, drawing 3,886 votes to a combined 981 votes for six opponents or an uncommitted slate of delegates.
Senator John Cornyn polled 2,884 votes for renomination while four opponents drew a combined 1,014.
Renee Swann led a group of 12 Republicans hoping to succeed the GOP’s Bill Flores as U. S. Representative, District 17. Swann drew 1,477 votes.
Incumbent Terry Wilson, running unopposed in the primary for renomination to his District 20 state representative position drew 3,530 votes.
