The Rockdale Downtown Association had its largest and most successful Christmas Tree Lighting on Thursday night at Wolf Park.

“We ran out of almost everything this year including 30 gallons of homemade chili and 15 gallons of hot chocolate and cookies donated by Rollo Insurance,” said RDA President Kara Clore.

RDA board member Joyce Dalley worked the crowd during the night and said she met lots of Rockdale newcomers who told her their kids came home from school wanting to attend the annual event. “Two couples I met live in Austin and they came to the Christmas Tree Lighting from there because they are interested in living in a smaller community,” Dalley said.

Officers once again served the chili.

The Tiger varsity basketball teams showed up together again this year and made sure the hot chocolate and cookie table ran smoothly.

The 30 gallons of delicious chili was prepared by the Climate Control AC & Heating team with meat donated by Rockdale meat Market.

RIOT Platforms employees put up the tree as well as all the lighted decorations around downtown. More decorations will be added to the new lampposts soon.

Once again, this year, DJ Ant, Anthony Cortez, played Christmas favorites to put everyone in a holiday mood.

This year’s sponsors are the Rockdale Downtown Association, Climate Control AC & Heating, Rockdale Meat Market, RIOT, Rollo Insurance, Big Ant DJ Service and the Rockdale Chamber of Commerce.
