Rockdale ISD trustees have “pulled the trigger” on the proposed new football fi eld.
RISD has called for bids on the new facility, which also includes a new track and general upgrade at the athletic complex.
Trustees met in regular session Monday evening with architect Lance Melton of Huckabee & Associates to go over specifi cations for the project, which represents the largest upgrade to the RISD athletic complex in 84 years.
MAINTENANCE—He confi rmed the new facilities, which include artifi cial turf replacing the current grass fi eld, will be easier to maintain.
“All you have to do is put on a new structure topcoat,” he said.
Supt. Dr. Denise Monzingo had noted with the addition of soccer to the RISD athletic program, the fi eld now gets year-round use, increasing maintenance on the current grass facility.
BIDS—Sealed bid proposals on the project are now being accepted from qualifi ed proposers at the Central Administration Building.
They will be submitted in two parts on Thursday, April 26. Part A will be submitted until 2 p.m. and Part 2 until 4 p.m.
Prospective bidders are “highly recommended” to attend a pre-proposal meeting at 1:30 p.m. April 17 at the Central Administration Building.
PROJECT—The project, estimated at $5-million will have as its centerpiece a new football fi eld on the same footprint as the current Tiger Field, to be oriented north-south instead of east west.
It’s being built without a tax increase or bond issue, using maintenance tax notes.
Two weeks ago the board okayed a better-than-expected interest bid on those tax notes.
George K. Baum & Co. bid 2.790714 percent. Financial advisors were expecting bids in the 3.25-percent range.
