What started out to be a simple drug arrest on Murray Avenue by Rockdale High School evolved into a full-fledged chase Tuesday afternoon.

Lt. Stephen Goodrich said Ofc. Joah McCaleb had stopped a vehicle and detected the odor of marijuana.

“The driver admitted he did have marijuana and Ofc. McCaleb asked him to step out of the car,” Goodrich said.

Goodrich said the officer leaned into the vehicle but the driver “took off.”

“It left McCaleb sort of hanging there for an instant but he was able to able to get loose and began to chase him,” Goodrich said. “The chase ended on Hogan Street where the suspect was apprehended and 4.2 grams of meth were found.”

Jacob Tyler Richardson, 27, of Thorndale was charged with evading arrest with vehicle, possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, tampering/ fabricating evidence with intent to impair and possession of marijuana (less than two ounces).

SEX OFFENSES—

Goodrich said police were able to identify a male subject who was the object of several indecent exposure reports.

“We have a warrant issued for his arrest,” Goodrich said.

A warrant has also been issued in connection with a registered sex offender whom police determined to be in violation of guidelines.

“Sex offenders are suppose to notify the authorities when they move in or out,” Goodrich said. “This is an individual we didn’t believe did that, either when he initially came to Rockdale, or recently when he left.

Goodrich said the Rock-dale Police Department continues to adopt a “zero tolerance” toward sex offender notifications.

ACCIDENTS—No injuries were reported in a 4:29 p.m. April 30 collision on West US 79 in front of Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home.

Police listed drivers as James Dotson of Thorndale and Bonny Smith of Rock-dale.

Police said a hit-and-run incident was reported at 12:52 a.m. Monday.
