MILANO—Two persons were arrested Friday, minutes after a “burglary in progress call” was made to the Milam County Sheriff’s Department.
Sheriff Chris White said William Bright III, 55, and 51-year-old Stephanie Russ were taken into custody.
Both were charged with burglary of habitation and bond was set at $30,000 each.
Bright was released after posting bond but as of presstime Tuesday, Russ remained in the county jail in Cameron.
White said the call that a break-in was in progress in the 9800 block of County Road 342 near Milano was received about 7 p.m.
“While en route, deputies were updated that a neighbor had tried to detain a man and woman who had come from the residence being burglarized,” he said.
White said the neighbor reported the suspects had run into the woods.
He said deputies took both into custody near their residence. “They gave up without incident,” White said.
The department impounded Russ’s vehicle which had been left at the location of the burglary.
“We will seek seizure proceedings to have the vehicle forfeited to the sheriff’s office,” he said.
“Although the vehicle does not appear to be worth much money, I am hopeful that seizures like this send a message to criminals that we are going to use every means at our disposal to discourage theft and burglaries,” White said.
