Two persons died at sunrise Tuesday in a US 79 crash near Milano, bringing the total of Rock-dale-area highway fatalities in the last two months to fi ve.

According to the DPS, an eastbound Chevrolet Cruze crossed the center strip 1.8 miles west of Milano and was in a head-on collision with a westbound Dodge Ram pickup.

Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Greg Hoelscher.

The Chevrolet driver was listed as Antonio Reyes, 33, of Georgetown while the pickup driver was William Hobbs, 79, of Cypress.

State Trooper Jacob Luna investigated.

Traffic on US 79 was down to one lane for about three hours following the accident.

On April 30 a 36-year-old Alabama man was killed in a collision with an 18-wheeler in front of Milano Cefco.

A 51-year-old Rock-dale man died in a wreck on FM 1712 just north of the Rockdale city limits on March 6.

Four weeks later, on April 5, a 63-year-old Bryan man was killed in an accident just west of Milano on US 79.
