Zain Taylor and Kelvin Ortega were indicted by a Milam County Grand Jury for aggravated assault after shooting two teens at an after-prom party in Milano in May.

The Mi lam Count y Sheriff’s Office on May 15 announced two people had been detained in connection with the shooting.

It was first thought that only one person was injured, but deputies learned later on that day that a 14-year-old boy was also shot in the leg and was being treated for the wound. The other victim, a 17-year-old, was airlifted to a hospital and at last check, he was in serious condition. Both victims have recovered from their wounds.

The Milam County Sheriff ’s Office says the residents of the property were throwing an after-party for the Milano prom.

Investigator Lt. Bill Behler says Kelvin Ortega, a 17-yearold from Oklahoma, and Zain Taylor of College Station saw the party’s address on Snapchat and decided to travel from College Station and bring a bag of marijuana they intended to sell. At the party a 17-year-old tried to take the backpack containing the drugs, Ortega started shooting and both suspects fled.

Later, the suspect’s vehicle was found abandoned. Investigators traveled to Brazos County, College Station, Robertson County and Franklin—eventually finding Ortega and Taylor—and got confessions from both of them.
