The filing pace for the May 4 city and school elections heated up considerably during the past week as Rockdale now has contested races for the city council and school board.

Deadline to file is 5 p.m. Friday.

COUNCIL—Both city council incumbents filed during the week, along with one challenger, setting up a contest in the east ward.

Incumbent east ward council member Joyce Dalley, seeking her fourth term on the council, is opposed by Michelle Larkin.

Incumbent Nathan Bland (west ward) filed, seeking his third term.

Mayor John King’s term expires this year. King told The Reporter on Monday he was leaning toward not filing for a new term. The mayor is completing his second term in office.

Filing is at Rockdale City Hall.

City voters will also have their say on some amendments, yet to be announced, to the city charter.

CONTEST—Amy Ogea Casas filed for Place 3 on the Rockdale ISD Board of Trustees.

She and Jillian McEntarffer are seeking the position being vacated by former board president Michelle Lehmkuhl.

Incumbents Charles Miles (Place 4) and Wenda Dyer (Place 5) are seeking new terms.

Dyer is seeking a fourth term. Miles is seeking his first full term after winning an election for part of the term to which he was appointed.

Filing is at the Rockdale ISD Central Administration Building, 520 West Davilla.

There are no Rockdale Hospital District races this year.

(Even thought Little River-Rockdale Hospital has closed, the district is still in existence. In fact, it continues to negotiate with an entity for use of clinic space at the hospital campus.)

THORNDALE—Incumbent Mayor George Galbreath and council member Stephanie Churchman have filed for new terms on the Thorndale City Council.

The term of council member Larry Drabek is also expiring.

Filing is at Thorndale City Hall.

As of Tuesday there were still no filings for the Thorn-dale School Board where the terms of board president David Hall, Kirk Becker and Dean Betak are expiring this year.

Filing is in the Thorndale ISD Administration Building.

MILANO—It’s a four-person chase for three at-large terms on the Milano ISD School Board as incumbents Carl Blake, Lynnette Taylor and Michael Andrews have filed for new terms as has Dennis Magee.

In the City of Milano filing, Mayor Roddy Gage and council member Glenda Westbrook are seeking re-election.

Other terms expiring this year are those of council members David Gunnels Jr. and Steve Honeycutt.

Filing for both those elections is in the Milano ISD Administration Building.
