Milam County Judge Steve Young reports he recently met with Lance Simmons, Texas Dept. of Transportation (TxDOT) Bryan Office engineer for a heads up on road projects around the county.

Most are in the northern part of Milam, but there are a few in the Rockdale area.

“Projects should start soon and all will be very helpful,” Young said.

He said the combined cost is estimated at $78 million.

FM 908—Four of the projects involve the southern part of the county and two of those are on FM 908, which becomes Main Street in Rockdale.

Those are to replace the bridge and approaches at Brushy Creek north of Rock-dale and Reese’s Creek south of town.

Also due for replacement is the FM 486 bridge at Brushy Creek south of Thorndale and the Pin Oak Creek bridge on FM 2095 near Hanover.

There are numerous other projects, both replacement and in other portions of the county including replacement, rehabilitation and widening of farm-market roads.

Young said there are plans to build an overpass at one of the county’s most accident-prone intersections, US 77 at FM 485 north of Cameron.

“That project is not currently funded,” he said. “However, funding could come in the near future.”
