If you’ve lost your job because of the COVID-19 situation and can’t get through to apply for unemployment benefits, you’re not alone.
Help may have arrived, hopefully.
On Monday the Texas Workforce Commission asked Texans calling to file for benefits to stagger their calls.
Rockdale-area residents, and all others with area codes beginning with 5 are asked to call Monday, Wednesday or Friday 1 to 5 p.m.
That’s also the preferred time to call for those with area codes starting with 3, 4 and 6.
Those in area codesstarting with 2 (Cameron and North Milam), should call Tuesday, Thursday or Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m.
Area codes beginning with 7 and 8 should call Tuesday, Thursday or Saturday, 8 a.m. to noon.
That leaves area codes beginning with 9 calling M-W-F, 8 a.m. to 12-noon.

Just for the record, The Reporter attempted to call this number at random times and got nothing but busy signals.
Those seeking benefits may also apply at https:// www.twc.texas.gov/
Benefits could range up to $521 per week for a maximum of 26 weeks.
