POLICE REPORT
A veteran Rockdale firefighter sustained serious injuries Friday night in a two-vehicle collision while backing into his driveway in the 1400 block of Murray Avenue.
Police and firefighters reported RVFD Lt. John Villareal was struck broadside at 10:04 p.m. and sustained numerous injuries, including a ruptured spleen, three broken vertebrae and a torn diaphragm.
He was taken to Seton Williamson Hospital. By presstime Tuesday, Villa-real had been moved out of intensive care and had undergone two surgeries, according to Police Lt. Stephen Goodrich, one to place stents in his spleen and one to repair a diaphragm tear.
Police said the other vehicle involved was 29-year-old Candace Cantrell of Rock-dale.
She was charged with intoxication assault with vehicle-serious bodily injury.
Cantrell was released after posting $20,000 bond.
ACCIDENTS—The crash was one of six investigated by police during the six-day reporting period.
Police said an accident was reported at 9:23 p.m. April 10 in the 600 block of San Gabriel when a parked car owned by Jacob Phillips of Rockdale was struck by a vehicle driven by Adam Salazar of Rockdale.
Damages were termed minor.
Extensive damages were reported in a two-vehicle collision at 5:38 a.m. Thursday in the 2300 block of West Cameron (US 79).
Police listed drivers as John Harshbarger of Hearne and John Arentz of Rock-dale.
According to police, Harshbarger was transported by AMR ambulance to Taylor Scott & White.
Police termed damages moderate in a two-vehicle collision in the 1600 block of O’Kelley at 1:23 p.m. Thursday.
Drivers were listed as Claudette Neuse of Seguin and Gary Griesbach of Rock-dale.
Police said Neuse was taken by AMR to Seton Waco Hospital.
A hit-and-run collision between a Jeep and a parked car was reported at 7:04 p.m. Thursday in a parking lot behind Rockdale Junior-High School.
Police said the Jeep driver remains unknown and listed the parked car owner as Holly Reynolds of Rockdale.
Damages were termed moderate.
Minor damages were reported at 6:54 a.m. Saturday in a collision at Rockdale RV Park. Drivers were listed as Theodore Gray of Gause and Cinda Neil of Rockdale.
UNFOUNDED— Goodrich said a sexual assault complaint reported during the week was termed “unfounded.”
CALLS—Officers responded to 183 calls for service during the week and there were 84 calls received through the 911 emergency system.
