Votes are in and both the Rockdale school bond and the creation of an Emergency Services District in Milam County passed with ease.
SCHOOL BOND— The Rockdale Independent School District bond for $30 million to improve security and add classrooms to two campuses, and many other projects at Rockdale Junior High, will start around January, according to RISD Superintendent Denise Monzingo. The bond passed by 58 percent, 411 to 296.
EMERGENCY SERVICES— Creation of an Emergency Services District for Milam County will help with emergency ambulance service won by 62.5 percent.
According to Kain Dodd, who sponsored the legislation, “Nothing will happen immediately with the passage, but it means we are on the right track to make necessary changes for the good of the citizens.”
CITY COUNCIL— In the Rockdale city council races, current mayor pro tem Lin Perry keeps his spot with 242 votes and was running unopposed. David Melton won the East Side race over Brittany Bell by almost 60 percent, 70 votes to 48.
MILANO— Blake Debault and Odes Foster Jr. won the two open places on the Milano ISD school board out of a field of five candidates.
THORNDALE— George Galbreath Jr. will be the new mayor of Thorndale, capturing 57 percent of the vote over Gerald Niemtschk. Michael Becker won his spot on the Thorndale city council in a tight race with Jared Melde, 53 to 46 percent.
