To make a case for “every vote counts” Milam County voters chose Bill Whitmire for County Judge by only 146 votes over incumbent Steve Young on Tuesday night. Whitmire’s percentage was 51.75 to Young’s 48.25.
JUDGE RACE—A total of 4,180 votes were cast in this primary race through absentee, early and election day voting which is about 26% of all registered voters, a dismal showing for Milam County and one percentage point less than the primaries in 2018. Whitmire ended the night with 2,163 votes to Young’s 2,017.
COUNTY COMMISSIONER PCT. 2—James Denman will be in a runoff against Douglas Baker. Denman ended the night with 391 votes and 47.39% of the total with Ferris coming in at 195 votes (23,64%) and Baker with 239 (28.97%).
COUNTY COMMISSIONER PCT. 4—Wesley Payne easily won his spot on the commissioners court with 64.02% of the vote against Johnny Andrews with 35.98%. Payne received 646 votes to Andrews’ 363.
