Southwest Milam Water Supply Corporation in Rockdale recently upped its rate on fees it charges to connect to water lines.
“The impact fee and equity buy-in fee were both changed via board action at Monday’s (March 15) meeting. The equity buy-in fee was raised from $950 to $1,161.68, and the impact fee was raised from $1,600 to $7,656. The new rates take effect for any new meter requests that were initiated after March 15, 2021,” said a spokesman for the group in an email.
The reason for the increase is because of the high growth in the portion of the county covered by the corporation, the spokesperson said.
“The impact fee is based on the projected number of connections, amount of growth for a certain time period and future improvements,” the spokesperson said.
The last increase in the impact fee was in 2013.
