A slow-moving line of storms dumped 3.7 inches of rainfall on Rockdale early Thursday morning, forcing Ham Branch out of its banks and leading to this water rescue at 321 Scarbrough Street at 1:08 a.m. Fire Chief Ward Roddam said Rockdale VFD volunteers carried one adult and one child to safety while another adult chose to remain in the home. Water 2-3 feet high was reported. Volunteers were called at 12:19 a.m. to 530 MLK Drive, but Roddam said occupants decided to remain in the home. Ham Branch waters had receded by dawn but there was flooding in the usual rural areas near Rockdale with numerous farm-market and county roads closed until the weekend as the storm surge traveled downstream.
