World Day of Prayer is a Christian women-led ecumenical movement that aims to bring together people of various races, cultures and traditions in a yearly communion of Prayer Day.

The women of Zimbabwe have written this year’s service. Zimbabwe, officially the Republic of Zimbabwe, formerly Rhodesia, is a landlocked country located in Southern Africa. The meaning of Zimbabwe is ‘House of Stones’.

The country has an estimated population of about 16 million people with 16 official languages. Christianity is the major religion observed by more than 80% of the population.

Friday March 6th, the World Day of Prayer service will be held at Peace Lutheran Church on Meadow Drive at 11 a.m. The women of Peace Lutheran Church and First Presbyterian Church have been coordinating the parts of the service and luncheon,with their theme: “Rise! Take Your Mat and Walk” based on John 5:2-9.

There will be involvement by women from First Baptist Church and Allen AME Church as well as Peace Lutheran and First Presbyterian.
