Area youth are invited to open for business to sell their goods and services at Rockdale’s Community Market from 8 a.m. to noon, Saturday, May 4 as part of the weekly community market.
May is the US Chamber of Commerce Small Business Month. The Rockdale Community Market will participate in promoting all small businesses by starting a Young Entrepreneurs Market. The goal is to bring the pieces together by helping to identify and engage entrepreneurial young people in the community.
The Young Entrepreneurs Market aims to provide a safe environment for kids ages 7 to 16 to practice and sharpen their entrepreneurial skills. All ideas are encouraged.
The Young Entrepreneurs are encouraged to use the following guidelines:
• Prices should not exceed $20 per product or service.
• Some examples of products and services offered are: jewelry, make-and-take crafts, toys, costumes, face painting, gifts, original artwork, fundraisers, magnets, paper weights, upcycled/repurposed items and more.
• Baked goods are allowed but must be labeled with ingredients.
• Each table must have a sign indicating their first name or business name. This can be homemade.
• Kids can work together as a school group, scouts, a local fundraiser, with friends, siblings or alone. Parents are encouraged to assist their children when necessary like purchasing supplies, getting organized, using the oven or driving, however, parents are not allowed to make items for the children to sell or sell their own handmade items at their child’s table.
The Rockdale Community Market’s goal is to provide a venue with an established customer base that gives young business owners significant foot traffic from potential shoppers.
“Providing young entrepreneurs with a thriving marketplace with a large and diverse customer base allows them an opportunity to receive real-time feedback on their products and ideas,” said Georgia Marshall, President of Rockdale Community Market. “These young people are the next generation of innovative thinkers and job creators for our community and giving them a space to build their dreams is an important opportunity for them to grow as entrepreneurs.”
The Rockdale Community Market, a 501(c)3 nonprofit, is free to all vendors (young and old) every Saturday (rain or shine) from 8 a.m. to noon, at the Cardinal Roofing & Exteriors and Home Consignment Depot property, 1613 W. Cameron Ave. in Rockdale.
