Help local postmen stamp out hunger on Saturday

The U.S. Postal Service and the National Association of Letter Carriers will pick up food from postal customers on Saturday during their 11th annual “Stamp Out Hunger” food drive.
Tom Guthrie, Rockdale postman, asked that residents leave food donations in or near mailboxes that day and local mail carriers will deliver the goods to Rockdale Christian Services Food Pantry.
“All donations are local and will help out Rockdale families in need,” Guthrie said.
Persons are asked not to leave food in glass containers or out-of-date goods.
Rural mail customers should hang goods in a bag so carriers do not have to exit the vehicle for safety reasons, Guthrie said.
Last year’s drive brought 2,500 pounds of donated food. The record for the Rockdale postal area is 3,000 pounds, Guthrie said.
“Early or late donations are still welcome,” he said.
“This event will be held rain or shine.”
