That’s the way Veterans Day is everywhere and there were three big observances at Rockdale schools on Friday to honor service personnel, past and present. Above, combined elementary and intermediate choirs gave a red-white-and-blue ribbon waving musical performance for veterans, parents and the public in the elementary gym, the largest of the Veterans Day observances. At left, veterans who earned Purple Hearts were honored during the annual ceremony in the Rockdale High School auditorium. Among those who stood to be recognized were Ernest Garza (center), wounded in Vietnam, and Gene Luckey (L), wounded on Iwo Jima during World War II. There was also a noon luncheon at the junior-high and a morning breakfast at VFW Post 6525. See more photos, pages 1B, 2B and 6C. 2p1.jpg
