With perfect timing, the Rockdale Volunteer Fire Department’s new fire truck arrived during the noon hour on Monday. It’s shown here backing into a bay at the fire station for the first time. The $347,000 truck is being purchased by the City of Rockdale, after it approved the RVFD’s request this summer. It is the first new truck in the RVFD fleet in 15 years. Fire Chief Herbie Vaughan said the new pumper will be in operation soon. “The Alcoa Foundation has promised it will pay for equipment and just as soon as we can get it all installed the new truck will go into service,” he said. The truck is being purchased from Metro Fire Apparatus Specialists of Houston.
