On Aug. 20, the New York Stock Exchange showed their support for Pediatric Cancer Awareness by inviting Candlelighters NYC to ring the closing bell of the New York Stock Exchange. Barbara Zobian of Candlelighters NYC, who regularly visits Kelly Shoemake Pickel and son Dustin of Rockdale at the Ronald McDonald House at Sloan Kettering, invited them to be present for this honor. It just so happened that they were in New York for treatment. Kelly said, “It was an awesome experience. The children were taken down on the floor of the stock exchange and were treated royally.” Kelly and Dustin are the woman in green holding child in red at right of center. September has been proclaimed Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month. Candlelighters is an nationwide organization that visits and supports parents of and children suffering from cancer.
