Leon and Carrie Jones marked their 60th anniversary with friends at the Manor Oaks Nursing Center on Friday. The couple, married May 30, 1949 near Dallas, met in church. They came to Rockdale about 30 years ago after his career at Texas Instruments and her career as an assistant librarian at The Dallas Morning News. Mr. Jones served in the U.S. Full Story

'Twogether' marriage seminar offered June 20 in Rockdale
Free workshop offers $60 off marriage license fees
The statewide Twogether in Texas healthy marriage initiative is offering Milam County couples $60 off their marriage license fees. All a couple has to do is attend a free eight-hour secular healthy marriage workshop. The workshop will be held at the American Academy of Crisis Counseling, 103 Mulberry Street, Rockdale, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, June 20. Full Story

Milano scholarships total $78,800
MILANO-Milano High School graduates were awarded over $78,800 in scholarships and awards at commencement ceremonies held at Pruitt Field on Friday night. The 39-member Class of 2009 heard speeches from valedictorian Shawn Pustejovsky and salutatorian Taylor Whitmire and were presented their diplomas by board trustee president Kevin Love. Full Story
