Trying to make up for lost time,
Bulldogs take on all comers
Unable to start their baseball season on time because their pesky basketball team was busy winning another state championship, the Thorndale Bulldogs are trying to make up for lost time, while at the same time, compete with their district schedule.
The Bulldogs stand 7-2 in District 27A play and are 8-5 overall.
Thorndale handled Bartlett 12-3 in district play with an equal number of hits.
Grant Griffin led the way, going 3-for-3 with four runs batted in on the strength of two doubles. Tyler Jordan was also 3-for-3 with four RBI
Shea Maupin picked up the victory.
The Bulldogs split a couple of non-district games, pounding Valley Mills 23-4 and then falling to Waco Reicher 12-1.
Against Valley Mills, Thorndale blasted out 19 hits and also took advantage of five errors.
Dylan Schwarz led the hit parade, going 4-for-5 with three RBI. Maupin followed with five RBI with a couple of doubles, while Jeff Hinistroza also socked in five RBI.
Big lefthander Tyler Pounders secured the win and improved to 3-1 on the year.
In the loss to Reicher, Joe Salinas accounted for the lone Bulldog RBI.
“We hit the ball really well,” said Thorndale Coach Kelly Kuhl. “I know this team is capable of scoring a lot of runs and we came out and proved that.”
