Milam records its 40th COVID-19 death

Another Milam County person due to COVID-19. This brings the death toll to 40 in the county.

"Our cases are on the uptick as well, as we now have 37 active cases, up four from just yesterday. The death toll in Texas stands at 43,563 and there were 297 just today. So, rest assured the virus is a killer and it is alive and well, right here in Milam County," said County Judge Steve Young in his daily email. "There is hope, but first know that it is critical that you wear your mask, keep your distance and get vaccinated. We are working as hard as we can to provide the vaccinations."

This week, the county allotment is 200 doses and the county will run a clinic in Rockdale Thursday. The plan is to administer 148 first round doses and 52 second round doses.

If you have been called for this clinic, save some time and download the consent forms, complete them and bring them to the clinic. The forms are available on our website at:

"Now that Merck and Johnson & Johnson have partnered to make the J&J vaccine, we hope to get more doses. In fact, we are talking to Bell and Williamson County in an attempt to get more doses. We will keep you posted, but we will use every drop we get," Young said.

So far Milam County has vaccinated almost 1,700 individuals and almost 1,000 have received both shots.

There are 2,330 people on the county waiting list. If you are in group 1A or group 1B, call 254 697 7000 or email Amy Guillen at aguillen@milamcounty.net and get on the list.
