A DARK DAY

A brief-but-intense thunderstorm blew through Rockdale and South Milam County about 3:15 p.m. Thursday. Here, city crews work on flash flooded Meadow Drive as the system which turned day into night departed to the southeast. Multiple trees and limbs were reported down in the area. At 3:21 p.m. the Rockdale Volunteer Fire Department responded to a public report of a funnel cloud at US 79 and FM 1786 but could not confirm the sighting. See page 1A. Reporter/Mike Brown

Trees were the main victims of a brief but violent thunderstorm which blew through Rockdale about 4 p.m. Thursday. This one was the 2000 block of Sager but trees and limbs were felled all over the city. Part of South Wilcox (FM 498) was closed Monday while city crews removed debris. Fire Pup Frolics

To bring some cheer to homebound kids—that’s all of them—in Rockdale the Rockdale Volunteer Fire Department escorted Fire Pup (Edward Biehle) through the streets Saturday afternoon. Before the visit could reach all of the town it was cut short by an actual fire call. Chief Ward Roddam said the tour will be rescheduled.
