D.C. “Charlie” Coleman, 85, of Rockdale died Saturday, May 12, 2018, at Renaissance Villa, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimers.

Services are set for 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 16, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home. Rev. Jimmy Sanders of Gause will officiate. Burial will follow at Oak Lawn Cemetery.

Mr. Coleman was born March 6, 1933, in Pontiac, Michigan, to Bascum and Dorothy (Smith) Coleman.

He spent most of his younger years in Hollister and Branson, Missouri, where he lived with his grandparents, Bob and Lula Smith, and attended school.

After high school, he moved to Texas with his mother and stepfather and worked in construction.

They moved to Rockdale during the time Alcoa Lake was being built.

While living in Rockdale, he met Della Luetge and they were married on Sept. 4, 1953.

Mr. Coleman was a member of First Christian Church in Rockdale.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1953 until 1956 and was stationed in Germany for 2 years, spending most of that time working in the motor pool.

After his discharge from the Army, he attended welding school in Austin. He worked as a mechanic at the Chevrolet dealership in Rockdale for 25-plus years, then worked at Rock-dale Memorial Company until he retired in 1996.

Mr. Coleman enjoyed hunting and fishing, training and showing cutting horses, and spending time with his family, especially his grandkids.

He was preceded in death by his mother and stepfather, Herb and Dorothy Fischer; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Lillian Luetge and Louie Luetge Sr.; two brothers-in-law, Louie Luetge Jr. and Clyde Luetge; a son-in-law, Bill Johnston; and a sister-in-law, Charlene Luetge.

Survivors are his wife, Della Coleman; a daughter, Alisa Kornegay and husband Gary; a granddaughter, Sara Kornegay; a grandson, Scott Kornegay; and a sister-in-law, Shirley Luetge; also, numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers are Robert Luetge, James Luetge, Glynn Phillips, Keith Fisher, Paul Luckey and Pat Zapata.
