My calendar says winter begins on Dec. 21. A little cool Monday morning. The sun is shining and it is going to be a beautiful day. The weather is like several things in my life: I have no control over it. Older adults “remember when” Mr. Rogers sang “It’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood”?

The origins of some holiday traditions

Christmastime is here. Presents are being purchased and wrapped. Stockings will soon be hung on the fireplace mantle. Mistletoe is pinned above the front entryway, and poinsettias add rich color to home decor. Tradition is integral come the holiday season.

We normally have beef for Christmas and it’s usually a rib roast, but this year rib roast prices are high as a giraffe’s behind so we’re changing it up and having Mom’s chuck roast with black onion gravy.

ORGANIZATIONS

Senior Center seeking volunteers, donations The Rockdale Senior Center is in need of volunteers on Mondays to deliver Meals on Wheels twice per month. They are also asking for donations for their Angel Tree and seeking people to adopt a senior or buy items from their wish list.
