Thorndale, Milano win big at moot court

“Legal” teams from Buckholts, Cameron, Milano, Rockdale and Thorndale presented legal arguments in a difficult DWI case at this year’s moot court last week. “Moot court gives students a chance at a learning experience and a glimpse into the legal world,” according to Judge Steve Young.

MDD discusses fate of industrial property

At Monday night’s meeting of the Rockdale Municipal Development District (MDD) Economic Director Jim Gibson told the board that he had spoken to the new owners of the Alcoa property, SLR Property LP and found out information that he and the board were unaware of before his discussion.

Milano ISD goes with LED

Milano ISD recently completed a comprehensive district wide LED lighting project. The entire district now has LED lighting, creating a superior lighting environment for students and staff on all of their campuses. The project included 3,500 lights being upgraded from fluorescent to LED.

Ferris running for Pct. 2 commissioner

Dude Ferris announced that he is running for Pct. 2 commissioner this week. Ferris worked in the trucking business for 26 years and branched out into other businesses such as fleet repair, site preparation driveways and a recycling business.

Oney Toy run raises $7,650 for needy

The Bad to the Bone Riders and the 16th annual Buddy Oney Toy Run committee have released their final totals for this year's fundraiser for Milam County’s less fortunate families. This year they raised $7,650. Milam County Brown Santa received $800 worth of bikes and helmets plus a $600 check.

BUSINESS OF THE MONTH

BUSINESS OF THE MONTH—Las Tortugas was selected as the Chamber of Commerce’s Business of the Month for December. The business opened four years ago and is famous for breakfast tacos, tortas, burritos and gorditas.

RIS counselor Morris wins CREST award for 2021-2022

Rockdale Intermediate School and their counselor, Paige Morris, were one of an elite group of schools from across the state to win the CREST Award for Counseling Excellence for 2021- 2022.

Police made felony arrest during week

The Rockdale Police Department made one felony arrest during the past week: • Joe Ramos Jr., 51, Rockdale was arrested on Thursday for assault family/ household member impeding breath/circulation.
