Voice of Democracy student essays

The Veterans of Foreign Wars Voice of Democracy competition has begun and this year’s theme is “How can I become a good American?” The competition is open to all junior high and high school students as well as private school and homeschooled students.

Chili supper at Pleasant Retreat UMC

Two COVID deaths brings total to 65

County Judge Steve Young reported two more COVID-related deaths in Milam County on Tuesday morning which brings our total to 65. Neither person was vaccinated. There are 66 new cases to report, and 118 discharged cases to report for a net decrease of 52 cases.

Vaccine, testing clinics this week

Testing will be done at the Cameron Fire Station on Thursday, Sept. 16 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. A vaccine clinic will be held on Friday, Sept. 17 at the Rockdale Medical Center from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. with Pfizer, ages 12 to 18, and Moderna, age 18 plus.
