Dove population points to favorable hunting season

September marks the start of dove season for almost 300,000 Texas hunters per year. After Winter Storm Uri hit the state in February, many hunters are wondering how the snowfall and below-freezing temperatures may have affected dove populations.

Retirement celebration for Dr. D.L. Brooks Sr.

New Jerusalem Inter-Denominational Church will hold a celebration for retiring pastor Dr. D. L. Brooks Sr. on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 9-10, at the church. Dr. Brooks has served the church for 41 years. The retirement and appreciation banquet will be held at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct.

Minerva Community Center holds meeting

The Minerva Community Center will hold its annual meeting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 9, at the community center. Everyone in the community is encouraged to attend. The agenda will cover old and new business as well as the election of a trustee.

Alcoa Retirees meeting September 9

Rockdale Alcoa Retirees will hold a meeting on Thursday, Sept. 9, at the Thorndale Veteran’s Memorial Hall (formerly known as the VFW Hall) at 5 p.m. A barbecue meal will be served after the meeting. Plates are $15 at the door. Donations for hall rental will be accepted.

AA meeting by Zoom due to COVID rise
