Historical grant applications available

Due to a donation from the Hotel Occupancy Tax funds by the city of Rockdale to the Milam County Historical Commission’s Preservation Grant Fund, a Rockdale Preservation Grant is now available for historic preservation.

Vietnam replica in Georgetown for event

The fifth annual Field of Honor will include the “Cost of Freedom” American Veteran Traveling Tribute. The display includes the 80 percent replica of the Vietnam Wall and 72 additional panels that pay tribute to veterans of all other wars. The event will be held Nov.

Rockdale MDD pays off bond

The Municipal Development District completed the process of paying off one of its’ two bonds, the board said in a news release. “While the board was evaluating its financial position, we realized that we had a substantial amount of money in the bank,” said RMDD board President Michelle Larkin.

Police arrest six during week; one accident reported

The Rockdale Police Department made six arrests with one each for family violence, assault, possession of a controlled substance (less than 28 grams), public intoxication, driving with license invalid and no driver’s license.

FIRE CALLS

• The Rockdale VFD responded to a woodpile on fire on Riley Street and a grass fire on North FM 908. They also responded to eight calls for medical assist. • Milano VFD responded to three calls this week.

Abbott signs election legislation into law

Gov. Greg Abbott signed Senate Bill 1 into law, which will uphold the integrity of elections in Texas. The governor held the bill signing ceremony in Tyler, where he was joined by Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick and the authors of the bill—Sen. Bryan Hughes and Rep. Andrew Murr.
