60th COVID death reported in the county

Judge Steve Young reported on Tuesday evening that Milam County has experienced the 60th COVID-related death. “These deaths are preventable. The fix is the vaccine. Pfizer has been fully approved by the FDA and Moderna will undoubtedly be approved soon,” Young said. Milam County is 41.

Farmer’s Market

The Saturday Farmer’s Market is still going strong each weekend on the Chamber of Commerce grounds along US 79 in Rockdale. Every week vendors put out goods such as eggs, jellies and other items from 8 a.m. to noon through October. Reporter/David Money

Getting down

City of Rockdale Public Works employees began laying water pipes along US 79 on Thursday morning. The new lines will be in the city right of way rather than the state right away. Public Works Director Jerald Brunson said the work should take 10 to 14 work days if everything goes as planned.

Thorndale firefighters see need for new station

Buoyed by a large donation from businessman and philanthropist Drayton McLane, Thorndale volunteer firefighters are setting out to build a new fire station to better serve citizens of the area. The drive for funds started back in June with the firefighters’ annual barbecue.
